Renewals and new signings at St. Panteleimon FC
By Fr. Anastasios D. Salapatas
The Saints are working hard to prepare themselves for the new challenge at the English Leagues. We consciously had taken the decision to move onto the English Football Pyramid and we were recently registered at the Middlesex County Football League – Division 1.
This new endeavour necessitates perseverance and very good organisation. Above all it requires a strong Team, which will be able to cope in a very competitive environment; in an environment which is obviously new to the Saints.
Thus, the Committee, the Manager and the Coach have decided to invest our hopes mainly on the Players that had proved to be assets for St. Panteleimon in the previous two years. They have developed strong bonds among themselves and they had demonstrated ability, courage, talent and determination to succeed. So, most of the past season’s Players have now been offered new contracts and they have committed to support the new journey with the Saints.
It was also thought that the Saints needed to strengthen in certain areas and thus they secured the services of some very talented Players from other Leagues, both Greeks and others. Thus, Leo Agathangelou and Elias Katsoloudi, from Livadia FC (KOPA League – Premier Division), Chris Spyrou, from Asha FC (KOPA League – Division 2), as well as Javonne Molloy, from Edgware Town FC (Spartan South Midlands Football League – Premier Division) and previously at QPR FC, had joined our Team and signed contracts with us.
The big surprise though came with the new goal-keeper Leon Dimas. He is a top Player and thus he is acknowledged as the biggest transfer of the summer for the Saints!!! Absolutely worthy of his Squad Number 1!!! He comes from Rosenborg (Norway) to St. Panteleimon! From the Champions League environment to our beloved Team. Leon joins the Saints and brings his considerable experience and outstanding ability to the Team.
He played his first friendly game with the Saints on Saturday 15th July, against North Greenford United FC (which is 3 level above the Saints on the English Football System) and saved a penalty, thus contributing to the truly deserved draw (1-1, scorer Igli Sevai, assist by Nikos Salapatas) and putting his stamp on our Team’s progress!!!
The future looks bright and we will do well if we keep working hard!
