New Saints’ victory and Jack Smith back from injury

It was a bright cold day in 17th February and the clocks were striking 14:00.   The Saints kicked off at The Hive, playing against JL Rovers FC at the Middlesex County Football League Division 1, eager to keep their unbeaten run this season, and maintain their winning streak, having won their last 8 league games.

The game took a while to settle down, and it was Michael Frangeskou who opened the scoring after 25 minutes, with one of his attacking runs into the box.

Five minutes later a penalty was expertly placed by Noyan Tajbakhsh. This calmed St Panteleimon and they eased into half time 2-0 up, and began to pick up their normal rhythm and passing style.

After half time a momentary lapse of concentration, and some decent passing by JL Rovers, allowed the opposition to pull a goal back. 2-1.

This sparked something in the Saints and they clicked into gear scoring 3 goals in 8 minutes from Nick Salapatas (Top scorer in the League) and two from Anton Wilson. Wilson’s second was a magnificent move with superb cross from Salapatas and fantastic header from Wilson.

With the game won at 5-1, the manager gave the substitutes some game time, and the Saints were pleased to see Jack Smith back from injury and on the pitch.

In the last five minutes, Roberto Katsikas (Μan of the Match) placed a nice shot to make it 6-1.

With their ninth win in a row, and still unbeaten after 14 games, the Saints moved into second spot in Division 1.  The table shows P14 W12 D2 L0. An impressive goal difference of +55, is +12 better than the next best from AEK London.

Next week the Saints play in the quarter final of the Anagram Trophy competition.
