A fast and furious start at Berkeley Fields in 24 degree heat, saw St. Panteleimon looking for a crucial win to keep the pressure on the top of the League. The Saints took the lead early with a superb move and finish by Nikos Salapatas.
AFC came back quickly and within 10 minutes it was 1-1.
A long shot from AFC made it 1-2.
At twenty minutes the “Saints” began to play their football with passing and movement. 2-2 came with a well deserved goal from Noyan Tajbakhsh.
Nikos Salapatas travelled with the ball on the left wing and offered an assist with precision to Elias Katsoloudis, who came on and with his elegant and solid first touch made it 3-2 at the near post.
The magnificent finish from Ayub Albadri coming in from the wing made it 4-2.
Half time gave both teams a rest from the heat.
In the second half the “Saints” started calmly and controlled much of the game.
The light rain came and it was AFC’s turn to pass the ball around. AFC were tired however, and their running efforts didn’t result any goals for them.
In the end, the steel and passion and determination of the “Saints” saw them win a very well deserved three points; thus reaching for the first time this season the summit of the Division’s Table.
